Together to reduce plastic pollution in the Mediterranean Sea!

We are really happy to be part of the BeMed Community of Practice which gathered at HIGGS in Athens on 17-18 April 20024, including the last promotion of the micro-initiatives Laureates. Once a year, they meet in person to work on their similar issues and share their experiences. It is a chance to create connections among the Mediterranean local stakeholders and learn from each other’s.
This Mediterranean Community of Practice brings together all the members of the BeMed network selected since 2017 during the calls for micro-initiatives and the first call for projects in the Mediterranean islands. These local stakeholders are working together to reduce plastic pollution in the Mediterranean Sea.

This annual event is the time for the members of the Community of Practice to meet physically and create synergies. Throughout the year, they work on the issues they encounter, benefit from the expertise of others and share experiences to find solutions collectively.

The first day, the 17th of April 2024 was focused on engaging subgroup work, insightful discussions on prevalent issues, and a captivating introduction to the art of storytelling.
The second day, the 18th of April 2024, was dedicated to a field visit to discover how plastic pollution is being tackled in Greece.

At this event, the BeMed Community of Practice had the honor of welcoming H.S.H Prince Albert II of Monaco during the BeMed Laureate Day. It was the occasion for members of the Community of Practice to present the results of their work. During the day, the members worked on various issues such as:

🙋‍♂️ How to involve citizens in the long-term plan?
💰 How to highlight the cost of plastic?
🤝 How to get all stakeholders around the same table?

It was also a great opportunity to discuss what role the state can play in the fight against plastic waste and how to find solutions together.

Best regards and special thanks to BeMed for the incredible opportunity to connect with fellow Laureates.

Meeting in person, learning about different projects and engaging with the community was a truly enriching experience. We look forward to future collaborations and continued involvement in this inspiring community!
