Sustainable Development, Circular Economy and Risk Resilience in the Built Environment

Within the framework of the 1FUTURE project, the Institute for Nature Conservation in Albania took part in the week-long INTENSIVE COURSE (TMSIC) on “Sustainable Development, Circular Economy and Risk Resilience in the Built Environment”, held on 17-20 November 2025, at KHCS, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Polytechnic University of Tirana.

In this activity, INCA held two open lectures on topics related to climate change and its impacts on sustainable development: “Climate Change: Assessing Risk and Vulnerability in Modern Communities” and “Land Hazards: Erosion and Fires in the Context of Climate Change”. The lectures were held by Genti Kromidha, Emirjeta Adhami and Nihat Dragoti, an expert at INCA, on two days, November 19 and 20, 2025. Through the presentation of concepts on climate change and its negative effects on the economy, society and environment, the lecturers increased the students' knowledge of identifying and assessing risks with the aim of a structured analysis not only of the damages, but also of the costs associated with these damages. Also, through examples, the assessment of measures that can be taken to minimize the damages and reduce the level of risk to these current climate changes was carried out. The students worked together with the lecturers to identify the risks and assess them, understanding the process and at the same time proposing measures that would improve the analysed situation.

This activity is part of the partners' commitment to strengthening the capacities of the new generation of professionals for climate change risk management, adapting sustainable development to changing conditions, and promoting cooperation between scientific research, relevant expertise, and communities.
